Today is Friday.
Fridays, in some work places around the world, people gather after a short seminar, around a special theme, or just at a particular time, and have a drink and a toast. This is the moment where you can meet up with new persons, talk about crazy ideas and built new out-of-the-box experiments, or simply organize the next hike.
I discovered TGIF in Singapore. I found that this habit was a good way of “celebrating” the week passed and engage colleagues in joyful exchanges. I was happy to learn that my new workplace in Maine had this kind of event. And I am thankful to those Friday evenings that allowed me to meet the new community faster, and where I could enter into contact with people I would never have collaborated with otherwise.
But since the month of March there is no more TGIF. We have tried with a virtual evening, but that didn’t work… although we sometimes TGIF at 2-3 colleagues, I am most of time condemned to celebrate myself, with myself…
Tonight, I went to hike, swim, and walked back home before the beer. I cross my path with humans few times only, and didn’t meet anyone to talk to. But I encountered quite a lot of animals: a funny deer sneezing (hopefully he will learn not to stare at me so intensively – I believe an insect entered its nostrils!!), squirrels, flies, dragonflies … and mosquitos! I can’t believe they reached my eyes! – I shouldn’t have stopped for taking so many pictures!
* TGIF means Thank God It’s Friday!
